Terms of Use

Free, open source, and private by design.

Last updated: June 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

By downloading, installing, or using Clairo (the “App”), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. Clairo is provided by the Clairo team (“we”, “us”).

2. What Clairo is

Clairo is a macOS menu-bar assistant that reads the Slack or Zalo thread you have open and drafts replies using a local AI model that you install and run yourself. It runs entirely on your device. It is not a service we host, and it does not require an account.

3. License

Clairo is free and open source. You may use, copy, modify, and distribute it in accordance with its open-source license, available in the project repository. You may use the App for personal or commercial purposes at no cost.

4. Privacy: we don’t collect or sell your data

We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of your data. Your Slack and Zalo conversations are read and processed locally on your Mac and are never sent to us. Full details are in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

5. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for: (a) installing and running your own local AI backend (LM Studio, Ollama, or 9router); (b) granting the macOS Accessibility permission the App needs to function; (c) reviewing every draft before sending it — Clairo never sends messages on your behalf; and (d) complying with your organization’s policies and Slack’s own terms when using the App at work.

6. Third-party backends and services

Clairo relies on a separate AI backend that you choose and control. If you configure a backend (such as 9router) to forward requests to an external or cloud provider, that provider’s terms and privacy policy apply to the data you send it, and we are not responsible for how it handles your data. To keep everything private, use a local backend.

7. No warranty

The App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. AI-generated drafts may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate; you are responsible for reviewing and editing any reply before sending it. We do not guarantee the App will be error-free or uninterrupted.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including any message you choose to send. Because the App is free and open source, it is provided without any commercial guarantee.

9. Trademarks

Clairo is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Slack Technologies or Zalo. “Slack” and “Zalo” are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to describe compatibility.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised terms.

11. Contact

If you have any questions about these terms, contact us at [email protected].
